Psychiatric Survivors

There is always hope.

Welcome to the Psychiatric Survivors blog, a site dedicated to those who wish to tell their own story about victories over the mental health care system.  Whether the story is your own or that of someone you love, whether you wish to remain anonymous or not, these are stories that need to be told.  Have you received a diagnosis of mental illness or depression?  Have you been prescribed anti-depressants, anti-psychotics or other psychotropic drugs?  Are you currently taking pharmaceuticals?  Which?  Have you been hospitalized?  Was your hospitalization voluntary or involuntary?  What sort of treatment did you receive?  Where was the hospital? Who were the doctors and psychiatrists involved?  How are you feeling now?  What would you like the world to know about your experience?

As this may be a very painful topic for some, and a very sensitive topic for others, this blog respects anonymity.  In the first place, you need to know that you (or your loved one) are incredibly brave for enduring that which you have endured, and secondly you need to know that there is hope.  God alone may understand your suffering, but there are many others who can join with you and offer hope for the future.  If you or someone you know is a psychiatric survivor, or takes an active interest in the well-being of someone who has been labelled “mentally ill”, feel free to share your stories and opinions.  Please keep the conversation civil and respectful, as the purpose of this blog is to bring to light stories that are too often held back because of fear or shame.  The purpose of this blog is also to invite healing and strength into the lives of those who suffer.  Thank you for your courage and your contribution.  Be strong.  The best is yet to be.
